Christmas In Copenhagen
(Words and Music: Colin Reece)

From the album Red Wing by Colin Reece

For Bente in Denmark who, quite simply, invited me to spend Christmas with her.
Sadly, I was skint at the time and couldn't go.
Does Santa visit Denmark?

Riding horses through the snow
It sounds attractive and I know
That you mean it when you say to me
You want me there so we must see if I can

Our fourteen days of love and fun
That summer back in Eighty-One
When we spent our days in peace and calm
And night-time in each other's arms and we fell
So if my pocket will allow
I think I'd like to spend my Christmas in Copenhagen
Copenhagen, Copenhagen with you.

When you arrived at my front door
I must admit I wasn't sure
If I'd recognize you as the girl
I met one night just two months earlier

But thank the Lord you had the nerve
To come out and declare your love for me
I'd be here ‘til judgement day
A sorry sight afraid to say how I feel.
And do I really need to say it
It turns me on to think of Christmas in Copenhagen
Copenhagen, Copenhagen with you.

But every good thing has an end
And you went back to your home again
And it seems that you were forced to go
As both of us had got to knowing each other

And I'm sorry that I have to say
I'd love to go but I can't make it
For work is thin this time of year
And ferry fares are far too dear on my pocket
But when at last we meet again
Then every day will be like Christmas in Copenhagen
Copenhagen, Copenhagen with you.
