MORNING KNOWS
(Words and music; Colin Reece)

From the album 'Face to Face' by Colin Reece and Ian Cutler

Come here my friend and sit with me
You seem to need some company
A friend for you to tell your troubles to
You say she's left you high and dry
And all you want to do is cry
Well let me say I need a shoulder too
You wonder who the next will be
It's something you don't want to see
And it's easier in the evening when
Surrounded by your steady friends
But when you help each other stagger home
You close your own front door alone.

Morning, morning knows
Morning, morning knows.

What's that she said? "It's for the best"
Well tell me get it off your chest
And talk about the silent tears you've shed
'Cos it's good to have your friends around
We go out and we paint the town
But it turns an alcoholic shade of red
And what's the purpose of it all?
Is it really just to have a ball?
A laugh, a joke and another beer
Do we really feel that full of cheer?
Or does it help to think we might
Be drinking ourselves soundly through the night.

Well morning, morning knows
Morning, morning knows.

But take comfort from my words my friend
My words and ears are yours to lend
And you'll find that as the days go by
You'll find out where your comforts lie
And it's better to have loved and let it fall
And lost
Than never loved at all

But it's morning, morning that knows
Morning, morning knows.
